Theological Offspring

Our son Ben, along with his sister, is staying with his aunt for a few days before Thanksgiving. He has been fascinated with the Salvation Army volunteers ringing bells, and today engaged one of them in a theological conversation. It went something like this…

Why are you an Army?
I don’t think Jesus would like that very much.
Jesus likes love and grace.
Jesus wouldn’t want us to fight for salvation.
I think you should change your name to grace or mercy.

Well, I guess it wasn’t much of a conversation since apparently the volunteer never responded.

He raises a good question. And at 4, he’s already a theologian: speaking the Good News about God. Are you?
